The Requirements for Claiming a Child Tax Credit

The first thing you will need to prove is the age of your child. They must be under 17 for qualifying to make the child tax credit claim. This is the first requirement. You must have a birth certificate or age proof. The second thing is the relationship test. If you have a foster child or adopted child, you need to prove legally they are your kids. If you have a niece, nephews, you can claim on their behalf as well. But you have to the relationship test.

It means your child should not be able to provide more than half of his/her financial support.
